My Coupons Textbook Rental

Heather —  January 10, 2011

logoSince I began blogging, one of my favorite “side effects” of blogging has been the fact that people share tons of ways to save money. Many times, I will see deals and coupon ideas in my google reader. Over time, blogging has changed the way we eat and the way I shop…even how I save money!

Recently, I have been checking out book and textbook rental sites—not so much because I homeschool (although I may begin looking with that in mind) but, mainly, I have been looking at these sites because one of my sons is in college. I hate hearing about how he had to pay over $100 for a book, only to have the bookstore choose to not buy it back after the semester. UGH!

Anyway, recently, I heard about a site that is a good spot to find out about coupons, and  this site is even set up in categories, with a category specifically for book rental coupons—now this includes regular books and textbooks. You can even sign up to get an email letting you know about their weekly hottest coupons.

I have seen this site, before, but never took a long look. Today, as I look from a reviewer perspective, I will go ahead and bookmark it. Why not double check to see if there is a coupon code for the item/service you are about to purchase? I also like how the site has employees who keep the coupons current and check to make sure they are working. You can even add the site to your list of search engines.

Here’s the official word: MyCoupons ® has been providing tens of millions of people with coupons and coupon codes since 1995. Our CouponPros scour the Internet to find the best coupons and coupon codes to save you time locating a coupon or coupon code.”

I have forwarded this site to my son and am hoping he can get a few deals on textbook rentals—every bit helps!

I recommend taking a peek at this site. I find that the money I save using online helps like these really adds up.

To find out more about using coupons for book rentals, look at  My Coupons Textbook Rental. You can also find MyCoupons on Facebook and on Twitter.

The site is not hard to navigate, but why mess around? To easily see how to use the site, take a look at My Coupons official youtube channel

csn stores

Have you heard of CSN Stores? CSN Stores has over 200 online stores where you can find everything from modern dining room furniture to my favorite cast iron cookware… to toys!

With so many items, I could browse the site all day! I do like how they have so many ways to narrow down your searches and when I  price a particular item, I can often find a great sale, with prices less than at my local stores, even with shipping. (And, a few times, we have gotten free shipping)

I am planning an upcoming review with them and really cannot decide between letting my birthday boy choose something…or getting something for the house. I’d love the table/chairs above! Those are out of my budget right now, but they do have a lot of choices and looks like much of their furniture comes with free shipping–and none of those creepy furniture salespeople following you around, offering you cokes!

I do enjoy focusing on upgrading something for the household during these cold months…I’ll probably give it to Birthday Boy though. How can my kids be getting so old??

I disclose.  CSN will provide me with a Gift Code for sharing info about their site.

Imaginative Music Appreciation!

Heather —  November 13, 2010

Have you heard of Freddie the Frog? I recently took a look at the Freddie The Frog website and I think it is great. Sharing Freddie with your kids would be a great way to incorporate some music appreciation and fun into your child’s day!

Check out Freddie!

“While there’s nothing new about kids loving music, science involving music and the brain proves that learning music early in life enhances brain development.

In the fantastical Freddie the Frog® 4-book series (hardcover with companion CD; $23.95 each) detailed below, preschool through elementary-age children learn musical concepts while they are duly immersed in Freddie’s colorfully illustrated adventures.

Freddie the Frog® Adventures were designed to engage and introduce children to fundamental music concepts by simply playing the audio CD and turning the pages of the story book.  Freddie is a portal to the world of music and a reference point for the sequential learning of reading and writing music.

It is not a stand alone curriculum, but rather an enticing introduction to musical concepts.  Kids fall in love with the main character, Freddie the Frog, through his stories and eagerly await the next adventure, learning about music while they read.  When singing or learning to play an instrument, it makes it easy to refer back to the stories when reading music notes.  No longer is it a bunch of black dots and sticks all over the page of music.  Now the kids recognize rhythms and places from the books. Piano teachers love the reference.

As one six-year-old eagerly blurted out, “I LOVE Freddie.  That’s why I love music!”  That’s the real magic.  With these books, kids fall in love with music and begin a life time of building neural pathways that extend far beyond the world of music.

“Nothing compares to music in brain stimulation and development,” notes Burch.  “The plethora of music and brain research findings are clear – music training profoundly affects brain development and music education benefits every child.  The Freddie the Frog books were purposely developed to make learning music easy and fun!”

Enjoy a narrated sneak peek inside Freddie’s world and read about the cognitive benefits of music. Learn more, play games and purchase at

Giveaway Closed. Oooohhh! We have had one happy little girl around here. And, I think I’m just as tickled. The reason? Well, we got a doll bunk bed from Guidecraft’s doll furniture collection.

Guidecraft logo crop

While I knew that Guidecraft was a company that made well crafted products, I originally thought they only created items for schools, libraries…that type of thing. When I realized they had toys and items that individuals could afford I was very excited to go look through their online catalog.

As a mom, I am very particular about our toys. I don’t want a bunch of plastic junk that just fills up the closets. I want items that are tough, useful and beautiful—toys that can stand up to wear and tear…toys that can even be passed down to my children’s children.

As soon as I saw the doll furniture collection, I was in love! I went ahead and told my daughter and we spent a few days deciding what doll item to get. We eventually chose the doll bunk bed in espresso, because Emma has two special dolls and she wanted them both to have a spot!

The bunk bed came quickly and was very well packaged. Emma ran to get her oldest brother to put it together, as she was having a hard time waiting for her Dad to get home. Looking back, I could have easily put it together, as it was very simple with easy directions to follow.

Of course, her brother was happy to do it for her, especially when he saw how excited she was.

Emma and I spent the rest of the day making the bed and unmaking the bed…dressing the dolls up and down and deciding where to put the bed. It was so beautiful, I wanted to leave it out by her bed!

I really was impressed with the quality of this doll furniture. The wood is sturdy, the color is gorgeous and even the bedding was so nice. I love the little pillows!

Anyway, we got this a while ago. And, I am pleased to report that it hasn’t lost any of its magic. Emma plays with it all the time and still puts her dolls to bed each night. She even did a video for me to show you all about it!

So do you know another little girl who would think this is magical?

You can buy the Bunk Bed, or one of the coordinating Doll Furniture pieces at Guidecraft.

Or, win it! Guidecraft has offered to giveaway another Doll Bunk Bed!! (value $120) Whoo-Hoo!!

Many of you may be familiar with CSN Stores. I find their 200+ sites so fun to browse. With so many items, I could browse the site all day! I do like how they have so many ways to narrow down your searches and when I  price a particular item, I can often find a great sale, with prices less than at my local stores, even with shipping.

As we head into the holidays, I think this is a good spot to check for gifts or items to spruce up your home for company. Currently, they are promoting their barstools. You can take a look. For fun, I sorted by high to low price and found the one above. The one above is my favorite-can you believe that is a barstool? Anyway, they have tons of choices which could come in handy for extra holiday seating!

image773Do your kids long for stories full of excitement and intrigue? Do you? How about some well written tales of knights and quests, overflowing with the drama of the ultimate battle between good and evil?

I have totally found some great ones! My son and I recently reviewed books 5 and 6 from the Knights of Arrethtrae Series and we were really impressed. We both liked the cover art on the books, and after reading the back panels, I was in a hurry to read the stories.

The tales are written as an allegory–there is no confusion about the fact that the author, Chuck Black is a Christian and is writing these stories as his way to teach his own children (he has 6!) and to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ.

In fact, Black says that he wrote his first book “to inspire his own children to read the Bible with renewed zeal”. I can see the Biblical influences in his works, but he also definitely has created fresh and new stories, complete with complex characters and settings. Themes of morality and virtue, ideas of loyalty and truth form the framework for the exciting plots.

Also, Black is a former f16 pilot and engineer. While I was reading, I appreciated that the battle scenes were very specific–they were described so meticulously and they seemed so logical…so tactical, real. And throughout the different quests the knights faced, these periods made sense to me, ie, they took a reasonable amount of time and effort to complete and while reading, you almost felt like you were going through the process as well. I’m thinking that Black is drawing upon his own life experiences for all this…and it really works!

Now, my readers know I am pretty cheap frugal, and I review often so I save money on things I like. Only occasionally will I run out and buy books and such…but we are getting these books! I plan to get some for Christmas. I actually am going to ask the author to recommend one for a friend of my son who is just entering the Navy as a pilot:) He may be 23, but I think he will enjoy this. They are that good.

Sir Quinlan and the Swords of Valor

About the series and author:

Chuck Black first wrote Kingdom’s Edge to inspire his children to read the Bible with renewed zeal. This captivating expanded parable led him to write the Old Testament allegories, Kingdom’s Dawn and Kingdom’s Hope. Chuck added three more titles to the series, Kingdom’s Call, Kingdom’s Quest, and Kingdom’s Reign which were released in May of 2007. Chuck’s current works include The Knights of Arrethtrae series.

Chuck is a former F-16 fighter pilot and currently works as an engineer for a firm designing plastic consumer products. He has a degree in electrical and electronic engineering and served eight years in the United States Air Force. Chuck and his wife have six children.

You can purchase the books (and ebooks) on the Waterbrook Multnomah site.

You can find out more about the series and the author on the Perfect Praise website. You can also purchase books from all the series, autographed copies, audio books, and even posters on the site. While you are there, let your kids see the Kingdom Fun page. They have beautiful art for desktop wallpaper, coloring pages and more. It looks like they will soon have a Book Club, as well, which sounds like great fun.

Good news! I have a copy of Book 5 and Book 6 to give away!

This is a Mama Buzz review. The two books from the Knights of Arrethtrae were provided for my review. I have given my honest opinion.

Ok. So now I have gotten into my Fall routine. It’s mainly teach, shop, cook, try to stay healthy, have a bit of fun…repeat.

If you are like me…you are probably ready for a break—a bit of a regroup, as we head into the Winter and all the Holidays!

I totally recommend taking a bit of time for yourself, mama, and find some little changes you can make that will nurture your body and spirit as the days get colder. And, I have a treat from the perfect spot to buy eco-friendly baby products- Ecomom. (They have cool stuff for moms, too)

This Fall, I have struggled with our going organic thing—I am still very committed to it and determined to feed my family pure, healthy things. I am proud that my cooking and shopping has changed dramatically.

I am also excited that a my green lifestyle is actually becoming a habit and I am starting to internalize some of these ideas—to the point where I am taking better care of myself.

Lately,  I do not have to run and get the computer and “the recipe” to make a little sugar scrub for the shower—I will squeeze a bit of lemon and mix in some olive oil and make a little paste with my organic sugar. It works so well and smells heavenly.

I use a deodorant that is a spray of mineral salts. My Happy Mama Spray is still not giving me a headache….and I am oh, so in love with my Terralina skincare stuff…so much so that I finally went ahead and tossed my Clinique!

My newest luxury is to have a cup of green tea while I let my Farmaesthetics Rosehips and Clay Mint mask set. Who knew going organic could be such a pleasure?

EcoMomLogo1I found this mask on the Ecomom site, while I was looking for something that would be gentle and relaxing as a special treat for me…I looked on Ecomom, as I like their motto that:

“Healthy living doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Small steps matter, and make a big difference.” Ecomom says they “ Make it Easy.” And they did!

I was so glad I got the mask…the simple blend of organic ingredients did clear and smooth my skin. Technically, this may be called “decongesting the skin” but whatever…it felt great! I also loved the charming bottle. Here is a bit about the mask:

100% natural Vitamin C infusion and extraction mask to purify and decongest the skin.

A potent blend of organically grown peppermint leaves and rosehips, working together with kaolin clay, to wick away oil and bring down inflammation. Especially good for minimizing pore size and spot-treating breakouts.

Peppermint also cools the skin, settling irritation; while organic rosehips, nature’s most potent source of vitamin C, infuses the skin with restorative benefits in it’s most accessible whole herb form.

Nature’s perfect mask to decongest, deeply cleanse the skin, cool and calm all skin types.

Anyway, I really recommend changing things up and taking a bit of time for yourself to try some new things. Try a bit of homemade sugar scrub…dump some of those overly scented products!

I want to share some of this organic fun I’m having with you. I was so pleased that Ecomom offered to do a giveaway towards a product on her site.

There are tons of wonderful products for eco-concious moms showcased on Ecomom, from beauty to toys to clothing and gifts—all eco-friendly, all safe for your family. I love just browsing around the site, the photos make me want to try all kinds of new things and the prices are excellent—many of the items can be found elsewhere—but for more money.

Ecomom has daily and weekly specials and free shipping over $50. They also have a neat thing, called EcoPass—this is an annual membership of $99. The EcoPass gives you free shipping, a 15% discount on every order and advance notice on special deals.

One reader will win a $15 Gift Certificate to Ecomom!

You can also use code SBBL665 to get 15% off your first order. (Good until Nov. 30th)

For the mandatory entry, visit Ecomom and tell me what you would buy.

For additional entries, you can:

I will choose a winner on 11/9. Giveaway is for USA and Canada only. Please remember to leave a way for me to contact you in your comments!

I was provided with the mask from ecomom for the purpose of my review. I received no additional compensation and I have given my honest opnion.

Attention all gluten-free bakers and cooks!

GIVEAWAY CLOSED Last year, when we were trying to figure out what might be wrong with Emma, I did some research into the possibility that she might need to go gluten free. In the middle of all that, we found out she had epilepsy—and I never followed up figuring out about a possible gluten allergy.

But, anyway, I met some people who do need to follow a Gluten Free diet so I wanted to check this Bisquick Gluten Free prize pack out. The pack included a box of Bisquick Gluten Free baking mix, a pancake pan, pancake pen and a pancake flipper. I was extra excited when I realized the pancake pan was a cast iron pan!

Anyway, we tried the Bisquick® Gluten Free baking mix the other day. At first, I was a bit worried about how our pancakes would turn out—the batter seemed a little grainy (yes, I’m a bad batter eater!) But, after cooking the pancakes, I found them fluffy and delicious.

This Bisquick® Gluten Free baking mix is very similar to regular Bisquick–you can make pancakes, waffles, biscuits and other easy meals.

To find great recipe tips and ideas, visit There, you’ll find countless gluten-free recipes for family favorites such as Gluten Free Strawberry Shortcakes and Gluten Free Pizza Crust, using Bisquick Gluten Free baking mix. They are adding more recipes every day.
