Stanley Steemer truck

Right before my son’s wedding — you can see an ADORABLE picture of my son and his GORGEOUS bride here

But anyway, right before my son’s wedding, he was coming to visit us and bringing his bride-to-be along. The two of them had been out of the country for awhile and I was so excited to see them!

I immediately went into overdrive trying to get the family and the house ready to welcome these two as well as I could! A few new towels, some tidying here and there…and I still did not feel ready.

For one thing, my son is allergic to cats and I knew that he would stay with us longer if he wasn’t super bothered by his cat allergies. So, I tried to keep the cat away from that part of the house. Sure enough, I find her sleeping in his room.

Anyway, I started thinking about how to REALLY spring clean the rooms he would mainly be in.

I knew it would be important to deep clean. I heard about Stanley Steemer and I jumped at the chance to do a review of their service.

The process was surprisingly easy. I am in a small town and honestly, I expected it to be a pain to schedule and stuff. Not at all! I went on the website and chose a day for them to come and was able to price everything online, so I planned to spend my $100 gift certificate from Stanley Steemer through Blogspark and a little over to get the downstairs guest rooms and stairs done.

Just to let you know how badly I wanted this…I paid for it upfront because I just wouldn’t wait for my gift certificate! And, yes, the rooms looked great for our company!

The guys came exactly when they were supposed to, and even called ahead to let me know they were on the way. The two men were very polite and hard working. They were in and out in a few hours and the two rooms looked great. My one regret was that I didn’t believe it would take as long for the carpets to dry, so I had my sons put stuff back into the rooms too early. Next time, I would ask to have everything up on blocks to make sure it all dried super well.

Because we are in the woods and this is a downstairs level, I have trouble with those rooms seeming dampish. I am actually going to call Stanley Steemer again (now that my certificate is here) and see if I should get those rooms redone with some kind of protectant.

When I first went online, I realized Stanley Steemer cleans more than carpets:

  • Not just for carpet cleaning, Stanley Steemer’s expertise extends to hardwood, tile, air ducts, water damage restoration, and more!
  • Stanley Steemer’s proprietary equipment and cleaning processes remove more than 98% of dry soil from floors
  • With over 70 branches  and 220 franchise locations in 48 states, Stanley Steemer services 95% of the country

All in all, I am very pleased with how this has worked out. Sometimes my Spring cleaning seems overwhelming and this was a really nice pick me up. It just felt clean.

I love things that have a citrus scent. Apparently I need the energy! But I loathe overpowering, chemical scents. My favorite scents include grapefruit, orange, and lemon.

Having nice scents about as you work in the kitchen is important to me. I have a few soaps I enjoy using, and in fact one I already liked was the Seventh Generation dish liquid with lemongrass.

Seventh Generation has just released some more scents in their natural dish liquid line. I really like how well they bubble up and the gentle fragrance in the ones I tried. We actually used some in a Homeschool volcano experiment and got the best fake, bubbly lava ever. (And it smelled so good).

  • Seventh Generation’s new natural dish liquid contains only essential oils and botanical extracts, and delivers real cleaning power.
  • With authentic ingredients like lavender from the fields of Drome in the foothills of the Alps, clementines from sunny Calabria and lemons from the soils of Sicily, Seventh Generation natural dish liquid is free of unnecessary synthetic colors or chemically engineered scents.

Along with the new dishwashing liquids, I received a Le Creuset Baking Dish and some Twist© sponges and scouring pads. Cool!

The Le Creuset dish was included to help me try my hand at baking something special, to enter the Seventh Generation Contest. I enlisted Nick’s help for this, as he’s the true baker around here.

So, here are the rules:

share a recipe that incorporates any of the ingredients in the dish liquid varieties found here, (e.g. orange, mint, ginger, etc.). Include before and after photos and/or videos of the provided baking dish to display your recipe creation and the results of using Seventh Generation natural dish liquid for cleanup, and your post could be featured on the Seventh Generation Facebook page or in the Seventh Generation Nation online newsletter!

Nick came up with an awesome idea: apple pie bars with ginger. The kid is brilliant! You can see his creation above. I actually dumped out his bars and cleaned up and proceeded to make macaroni and cheese in the pan.

You can enter too!

Enter the “Nature Makes Perfect Scents” sweepstakes at and you can have the chance to take a trip for two to visit one of the sourcing sites of Seventh Generation natural dish liquid fragrance ingredients. Visit to learn more about each scent’s origin.

Win a Seventh Generation Natural Dish Liquid prize pack! Inside, you’ll find:

  • (4) bottles of Seventh Generation natural dish liquid varieties in Free & Clear, Lavender Floral & Mint, Fresh Citrus & Ginger, and Lemongrass & Clementine Zest scents
  • Premium 3 Qt. 12” x 9” Baking Dish from Le Creuset
  • (2) Twist© loofah sponges and (2) Twist© scour pads made from 100% post-recycled materials
  • Set of 3 organic cotton dish towels

Yes, I did put my feet on the coffee table. But,'s just to show y'all my boots!

I bought my first pair of really comfortable shoes about six and a half years ago.

That was the day after I fell down the stairs, at six months pregnant and broke my tailbone.

Ouch. I know. I was so worried about the baby! It was awful.

The day after, my husband pointed out that I needed some stable shoes, not just “pretty” shoes. I was worried “stable” meant ugly. But, I agreed and we went shopping.

Turns out, comfy and gorgeous shoes DID exist! Ever since, I really hate wearing any pinchy or unstable shoes. I know I can find beautiful and solidly made shoes.

Sometimes it is hard to find them. But not so much anymore. And it is so worth it to find some!

I have seen some nice Naturalizer shoes in stores, but had not yet tried them. I was curious about the brand as they felt soft and well padded. Then, recently, I got a chance to review the new Fall lineup from Naturalizer. They have some really nice styles and I chose a fantastic pair of boots, called The Arness.

Leather upper in a dress knee-high boot style with a round toe, Buckle detail at the ankle, Smooth lining, cushioning insole features N5 Comfort System

I feel hot in these things! They are very attractive, perfect for our area in Fall and Winter and oh, so comfortable. I think it is neat you can order online and see loads of pictures to choose from. Nice.

I actually wore these when we went on an impromptu hike this week. No Joke! They felt great. I wore them the whole day. That is unusual for me. I may just get some heels from Naturalizer next time!

Guess What? I get to give a reader a coupon for a pair of Naturalizer shoes!!

Read on and think about which kind you would choose!

I have a son who loves running track. It is inspiring to see him lacing up those shoes and taking off!

As parents, it is fun to see our kids using their gifts and enjoying the outdoors. Sometimes it is hard to afford some of the extras that our kids need when they choose to do sports. There are registration fees and equipment…all kinds of expenses. Still, we know it is worth it and we do the best we can.

So what brought that on? Well, I just heard about The HERSHEY®’S Track & Field Games, and I was thinking that I do appreciate it when companies sponsor activities that support fitness for our kids–so I am happy to share this info with you.

I took a look at The HERSHEY®’S Track & Field Games website and I saw several open track meets just in our area. You can look up events by zip code and contact emails are provided…it looks great to me.

So lace up your children’s favorite pair of sneakers and get ready to cheer them on at the finish line! To learn more about HERSHEY’S Track & Field Games, and to find a local event in your area, please visit

And, I received a HERSHEY’S Track & Field Games prize pack, with a drawstring backpack, visor, water bottle and rubber band shoelace stoppers and I get to giveaway another prize pack!

More info: “Since 1978, The HERSHEY®’S Track & Field Games has helped more than 10 million children get active and learn valuable lessons such as sportsmanship and hard work. Now in its 34th year, HERSHEY’S Track & Field Games hosts thousands of boys and girls, ages 9 to 14, in nearly 4,000 North American communities. They will compete this spring and summer in track and field events ranging from the standing long jump and softball throw to a variety of running and relay races – and all at no cost of entry. All you need is a pair of shoes.

The program culminates each year with the HERSHEY’S Track & Field Games North American Final Meet in Hershey, Pa. Held each year in August, the North American Final Meet hosts 450 outstanding young participants in a fun and exciting, all-expenses paid weekend trip to Hershey. During the weekend, participants tour the world’s largest chocolate factory and visit Hersheypark amusement park, among other exciting activities.

Nine-time Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis and Olympic decathlon legend Rafer Johnson will again return as HERSHEY’s Track & Field Games ambassadors in 2011.

To further encourage physical activity among kids and families, Hershey is teaming up with the Nike Reuse-A-Shoe program to collect old, worn-out athletic shoes to be recycled into Nike Grind, a material used in creating athletic and playground surfaces, as well as select Nike products. Program participants will be invited to bring used athletic shoes to state and provincial meets, which will then be recycled into Nike Grind. A HERSHEY’s Track & Field Games playground will be awarded to a participating local community as part of the program’s work with Nike’s Reuse-A-Shoe program. Since its inception in the early 1990’s, Nike’s Reuse-A-Shoe program has recycled more than 25 million pairs of athletic shoes into Nike Grind.”
