Archives For FlyBy

Today I’d like to tell you about a new devotional that is quickly becoming a favorite of my daughter, the Adored 365: Devotions for Young Women. We asked to review this particular book. In the past, I found it hard to find a lot of options for devotionals for tweens and teens. I found myself googling and reading reviews, looking for an option that would appeal to my kids, the way some of my devotionals appealed to, and comforted me.

Lately, I see a lot more devotionals that are geared to specific ages, which I think is great. I don’t want my kids feeling like they are reading “baby” stuff (and I know they just won’t read them), but I don’t want them to read daily devos with topics that are too adult for them either! I am hoping this book is a nice balance for my daughter and so far we feel that it is. She shares her thoughts in her video (and also here below).

I particularly love this book because the readings have to do with things I recognize and deal with. Readings vary from talking about friendships, to parents to boys. It even talks about things like social media issues and bullying.  Each devotional is very honest and sometimes funny, while always reminding me I am treasured in God’s sight. Truly, the devotional is not bossy or boring. It seems like I’m listening to one of my older youth leaders when I read it. I like the journaling and little drawing space on each page, and the scripture verse that pairs perfectly with the message. I also love that the book is hardcover and includes a cute, decorative art designs and a border on the pages. The devotional starts with #1 and continues for 365 readings, so my Mom says it would pair well with a Bible that has a yearly reading plan (although that’s just an option.)

You can purchase this devotional for $14.99 here: Adored 365: Devotions for Young Women. You can also preview a 7 day download by clicking here. #AdoredByGod & #FlyBy

Baby, Baby! Board Book

Heather —  September 29, 2016

Baby, Baby! is a cute board book by Diane Stortz, illustrated by Ailie Busby. The book showcases typical baby abilities while teaching about God’s love. Baby will enjoy rhymes, colorful illustrations, a big mirror, familiar activities, and other smiley babies. This book combines all these features into a short rhyming poem, ending with a reminder that Baby will always be loved by God. #BabyBaby #FlyBy Take a peek at what we thought about this book:

This board book for babies is a nice gift for baby or a baby shower. To view book or purchase it: http://tinyurl.com/zglnavk

I AM SECOND

Have you heard of I AM SECOND?

iamsecond

This is a website, a project, a… movement…

that is worth looking into. I am nearing the end of the 22 day challenge and so far I am in awe of the project.

When I first went to look, I was a bit worried to even click on the videos. I mean, they were supposed to be authentic stories from people in all walks of life. So that would make the videos, probably (I figured) stories of the trouble and pain that did draw them to Christ.

After checking it out though, I love the project. The videos are so well produced and each person tells their story with such clarity. I am truly a reader, not a watcher. But this century, visual things have meaning to far more people and this site fills a very important need. I am doing the 22 Day Challenge. One of my favorite videos so far is:

http://www.iamsecond.com/seconds/josh-hamilton/

Each story I have watched has brought me to the brink of tears, where, I’m going, “yes, that can happen, that’s horrible stuff” And, “yes, I’m so glad you are okay now and have found peace.”

Many of the people who are in the videos are actors and athletes, musicians, and many others are regular people. You can watch a five minute video and share all over the web. (Yes, I keep sharing, it’s good stuff!)

See what you think about the authentic stories on iamsecond.com. You could do the challenge or just choose a topic you are interested in. The site is organized by topic.

Want to help the project? One of the easiest would be to help create more films through Seconds Change:

Give Change, Make Change  Many more stories are waiting to be told.  You can help  (and this is easy). Commit $2 every Tuesday to build film funds, and your contribution will be used to develop, produce and promote new films. Join the project and become an I am Second insider with access to exclusive content via Facebook.
