udi's gluten free buns

When I first went Gluten free, I seriously missed having a hot off the grill hot dog with relish, ketchup and mustard in a warm bun. And watching my husband eat one of my famous gouda burgers was painful too!

One day, when my husband felt sorry for me, he brought me home some Udi’s bagels. They were really good. A different texture than the bagels I was used to, but delicious in their own way, toasted up with butter and honey…YUM.

That was my very first Udi’s experience!

Now that Summer has come and the grilling season is on, I get to have burgers and hot dogs and stuff again, as long as I use the Udi’s.

In fact, right now, Udi’s is running a “Countdown to Summer” promotion, where they are asking fans to get ready for grilling season with Udi’s Gluten Free Foods. Instead of having a BBQ, they are encouraging grillers to have an UDI-Q.

Udi’s asked me…How would you fill an Udi’s Gluten-Free Bun?

udi's buns

They sent me some Udi’s Gluten-Free Hamburger Buns (whole grain and classic) and Hot Dog buns to try. (I also got some delicious snickerdoodle cookies!)

I LOVED the hot dog buns. I use the organic hot dogs and a homemade relish…my husband lightly grilled the bun and I ate several. I had not had a hot dog in a bun in a few years!

I shared the hamburger buns with the family and when they were toasted up full of burger and extras, the kids liked them. They actually held together better than I had expected, and were good. The next day, I polished them off using them for an egg sandwich. Ummmmmmmm.

I have a big family, and I feel it isn’t really cost effective to buy Udi’s for everyone – but they do not all need that, either. So, now I get some for myself here and there and freeze them for a treat for myself. It is nice to know I can use them for everyone if I want.

Check this out: “Udi’s is creating a fun BUN-GO game on their Facebook page. BUN-GO is our way of getting fans exciting for summer and giving them the items they need (like our gluten free buns) to host a great BBQ.  From May 7th thru June 19th, visit Udi’s Gluten Free Foods Facebook Page. You must be an Udi’s Gluten Free Facebook fan to participate. Each participant will get their own BUNGO board, similar to a BINGO board. Each square has an associated task, such as answering a question about your favorite hot dog toppings. Once you complete a row, diagonal, or column of squares (i.e. tasks) you earn points toward Udi’s Gluten Free bun coupons and other barbecue essentials. If you complete your entire board, you’re entered to win a $500 gift card to one of the following retailers: Home Depot, Williams-Sonoma, or Whole Foods.”

wholly guacamole

You all know I love Wholly Guacamole! My favorite is the organic version, of course!

Overall, as a mom of teenagers, I feel I need to be able to pull out chips and dips to support the kids and their friends. Serving Wholly Guacamole and Garden of Eatin chips, makes me a cool mom…serving healthy snacks that the kids love.

Anyway, when I heard that Wholly Guacamole is participating in a “Get on the Shelf” promotion with Walmart, I thought,

“Well, it’s about time!! People trying to shop to save money should have healthy choices, too”!!

If you agree, go vote!! Hurry, voting ends April 4th

Vote in Get On The Shelf

Then…look for your favorite Wholly Guac and Salsa at Walmart, I hope. PS: new flavors are coming, too!

*I posted this to share and received no compensation. I am a proud Guac Squad Blogger.

Circle C Beginnings!

We adore the Circle C Beginnings Books around here! My youngest carries them around and has done many of the learning activities they have available to download on their website (for free:)

I recommend these for your young readers. Children have the excitement of having their own chapter books, but these books are not too long for little ones. Circle C Beginnings also introduces lots of adventures and new concepts and ideas about American History in a fun, family oriented way.

My child really identifies with Andi as a young girl in a large family-although there are plenty of boy characters as well–one of Andi’s best friends is a boy and she has lots of brothers, so, boys should enjoy these as well.

One of my favorite parts of the series has to be the illustrations! Gorgeous, pen and ink illustrations with lots of tiny details to engage the reader. You can see these and download coloring pages on the Andi and Taffy website.

A few other points: the books are paperback and quite inexpensive. You can totally use these as read-alouds with your children–you will not be bored–the storylines are great!

I have more to say about these, but I saw this morning in an email that Books 3 & 4 are now available, so I am copying that email asap below and hope you will check these out and enjoy with your kids!

“Books 3 and 4 of the Circle C Beginnings are now available!

Just in time for spring, Andi’s Fair Surprise and Andi’s Scary School Days are here. Get your own copies of the two newest books here:

* Best deal for the books! FREE coloring pages and learning activites for the Circle C Beginnings are available for download on the Andi and Taffy website: www.andiandtaffy.com and from the Kregel website.

In addition, A Journey Through Learning has created lapbooks for each book. They’re full-color, with complete instructions for assembly. Tie in history and literature to make the books part of a unit study, if desired.

hc-logoI am so pleased and excited to be participating in The Easy Organic Living Program! This is a fun series of Organic Challenges that are co-hosted by Healthy Child Healthy World (HCHW) and Baby Center and the sponsor is Stonyfield.

You can join me in taking one or more of four challenges over the next month and a half. From what I have already seen and learned so far from the program hosts and other participants, I know you will learn a ton about organic living and …you may even win a tote bag full of organic treats!

Today, I’ll be sharing the first challenge. Soon, I will tell you how I am doing.

3/9 CHALLENGE: Save a dollar here, Shift a dollar there

Organic living is healthy living and you don’t need a bigger budget to start buying organic. Protect your family by taking simple steps that have a big impact. Invest in health!

Your challenge:
For a full week, make a conscientious effort to save money by using some of the tips below. Then shift your savings to organics!

Buy in bulk and save up to $500 a year!

Eat your leftovers. According to the USDA, 14 percent of all the food that we buy ends up in the trash, adding up to almost $600 thrown away each year.

Opt for water. Instead of grabbing soda or juice, drink what’s freely available from the tap. You could save up to $200 per year or more.

Choose whole chicken. Save up to $600 per year by choosing whole chicken instead of boneless skinless breasts.

Buy fruits and vegetables when they’re in season. You can save up to $130 or more per year by shifting to seasonal produce (i.e., apples in the winter, plums and nectarines during the summer).

Eat less meat. If you were to cut meat out of your diet once a week and replace it with a vegetarian option, you could save about $250 per year for a family of four.

Find more tips here and learn more at Shift Your Habit!

After a week, estimate your savings and shift the money to organic food.

How your family will benefit from this challenge:
• You’ll save money.
• You’ll shift your budget to support healthier living.
• Your family won’t ingest potentially harmful ingredients found in non-organic products.

Share your experience!
Your story can help inspire others to live healthier! Please share your tips and trials. Here’s how:

  • Talk about it on Facebook. Share a story about this challenge using @healthychildhealthyworld and/or @stonyfield.
  • Tweet about it. Use the #ezorganic hashtag to give a quick example, tip, or link.

Pirose, a Fashion Nursing Accessory

Heather —  February 28, 2011

IMG_4451_mediumI am so jealous of all the amazing items available lately for new mommies! I begged asked to do this review because someone special in our family is expecting and I got so excited watching the video about how this stylish scarf is a light airy nursing cover with full coverage.  It is even hands-free!

I would love to have a little bitty one again. And getting the Pirose Scarf in the mail definitely made me worse. While they have numerous designs, I got the Jordyn (see left). The print was so feminine and the fabric so soft and delicate –if I had to use one word, I would say, airy–that I could easily imagine using this (and looking gorgeous) while nursing a little one.

Designed for new mothers who refuse to sacrifice style for function, the revolutionary Pirose works as a multi-way nursing scarf and fashion accessory providing discreet coverage and a stylish touch.”

I love all their choices for prints and I was pleased with the design I received. I did get it with a new mommy in mind and I plan to send it to her to enjoy!

If you are a nursing mommy, or looking for a good baby gift, I TOTALLY recommend getting a Pirose scarf.

I have to admit, I love the fact that this fashion item is like a secret mom tool and you can go from Fashionista to modest nursing mama in just a second!

PS: Yes, I am a nursing proponent! No, family, I am not pregnant. Also, if you like to nurse without a cover, cool. I personally, liked my privacy when nursing and I wish I had had something like this instead of fussing with dumb blankets

You can visit the Pirose website to see many more colors and designs and click here to see how to wear Pirose while nursing. You can also visit them on Facebook to see how other women are enjoying theirs.

The Official word: Why modern mothers love Pirose

  • Functions as a nursing cover, scarf, shawl, head band and stroller or purse accessory
  • Lightweight and breathable for portability and comfort
  • Use as a stroller or car seat cover when on the go
  • Easily tucks into your purse or diaper bag
  • 100% polyester material allows for easy washing and drying
  • With more than 12 ways to wear, Pirose instantly becomes your go-to accessory

I hope my brother’s new baby likes this one–I’ll check back in a few months and let you know!

This is a Mama Buzz review. The product was provided by Reno Rose for this review. I have given my honest opinion on this product.
