The Stylish Blogger Awards

Heather —  February 8, 2011

Thanks for Stylish Blogger Award!

One of my favorite bloggers, April over at Heartfelt Homeschooling, brightened my day by sending me this award! April is a veteran homeschool mama who is always up to something good. This week, she’s redecorating…I needed the pick me up as I’ve been sick almost a weekL BUT, between sending me this and entertaining me with her decorating stories, April is making me feel better!

The rules for this award:

  • Thank and link back to the person who awarded you this award
  • Share 7 things about yourself
  • Award 15 recently discovered great bloggers
  • Contact these bloggers and tell them about the award

Hmmm, 7 things about me . . .

  1. I have only been sick once this Winter—that’s a new record! Now, I’m ready to feel better! Hurry up, please, body.
  2. I have 5 children, ages 5-23. To be super exact, I have actually given birth to 3. Yes, I’m a stepmom too. And yes, being stepmom has its own challenges and rewards. Now that all the children are growing up, I sometimes have a minute to realize how lucky I am!
  3. We eat only organic. It’s not as hard as it sounds. I buy organics from our local Farmer’s Market, Martin’s, Whole Foods and Costco—I know Costco seems wrong, but I can get a bunch of USDA organic items: grass fed beef, Salsa, Milk, peanut butter, strawberry jam…I’m hoping they will carry a cheese soon.
  4. In light of #3, I need to begin a garden—I do NOT have a good track record growing things. This year will be different!! I hope.
  5. My cat got fat this winter. ??? I don’t know why. I’m a bit worried about her. She cannot have babies and I am still feeding her the same. Weird.
  6. I think my son’s girlfriend is one of the nicest people I have ever met. Isn’t that funny? I just never expected to enjoy my children’s friends so much!
  7. I’m throwing a Mardi Gras party! I do love shrimp & grits and some cajun music…

Now for 15 blogs. This is hard! I’ll try to do some I don’t usually share…

Tea Time With Annie Kate – a homeschool mom with a classical bent and a love for simple goodness, Annie Kate is one smart cookie.

Family Team – I enjoy this one! H Mama always has a great photo or uplifting thoughtJ

Minivan Moments –Angie was a TOS Crew friend last year. She doesn’t post daily, but several times last year, I watched her blog and parent with a conviction beyond her years. I think she is wonderful!

Not So Superwoman’s Homeschool, Reviews and More –I enjoy reading all about Lori’s family and think her sense of humor is just about perfect!

Mission Possible – I love to read Merit’s advice and tips for students

Until The Day Dawn – A homeschool mom whose love for Christ comes through in all her writings!

Got Chai? This Mom makes super busy look beautiful as she supports her family and littlest ballerina!

The Sunny Patch –This mommy blogger homeschools a child about Em’s age, so I love to read what they are doing!

Reduce Footprints – an enjoyable green blogger

Organic Deals – great coupons and updates on deals

I appreciate the nomination…and my kids are enjoying this as well. I have gotten quite a bit of teasing this morning!

If you haven’t been by to check these awards out, you can click on the logo and go see what this is all about, and vote for some of your favorite blogs. I have seen many of my favorite bloggers represented over there and have already found a couple of new blogs I like.

And, if you have a minute–please vote for me! It will be fun to get some votes on my nomination from my friends and readers!

I wonder if there is a plaque I can put in the kids playroom?

You know, A long time ago…in a galaxy far, far away, I was a young single mom.  The thought of  Back to School filled me with some good thoughts —

“less daycare costs,” but also some trepidation — “my kid needs some new clothes and school supplies”!

I actually got a credit card once JUST to buy new shoes and a backpack. I paid some RIDICULOUS fees on that thing, too. I still hate the Capital One commercials…even though they are funny.

Anyway, my baby had those shoes and a new backpack. I just ache for the women out there who will be worrying about this later this August.

I wish I had thought up some grand scheme to help these ladies…but I am still a newish blogger….lets work on that next year! For now, I am glad to support the Elmer’s Bagging It Forward program.

The Bagging It Forward Program will be  donating $10 for each blog meme post– up to $10,000 total

  • Participate in the Elmer’s Virtual Bag It Forward by giving away a virtual bag of school supplies and creating a blog post with specific rules described below.
  • Elmer’s will donate up to $10,000 to Adopt-A-Classroom.
  • You can give as many virtual bags as you want. (but each url will be used only once)
  • The Elmer’s Virtual Bag It Forward will officially begin at 12 AM EST on July 22, 2010 and end at 12 PM EST on August 12, 2010. Blog posts submitted to us before or after that time period will not be counted.
  • The blog post link has to be submitted in the comment section of this post for your participation to be counted.
  • In addition copy and paste the following text into your blog post:

  • Copy and paste these rules into your blog post.
  • Create a blog post giving a “virtual bag of school supplies” to other bloggers or write about your Back to School shopping trip at Walmart.
  • Link back to the person who gave you a bag of school supplies.
  • Let each person you are giving a virtual bag of school supplies know you have given them a bag.
  • Leave your link in the Elmer’s Virtual Bag It Forward comment section. You can also find the official rules of this virtual #bagitforward program there.
  • Elmer’s is donating $10 for each blog participating in the Virtual Bag It Forward Donation to Adopt-A-Classroom (up to total of $10,000 for blog posts written by August 12, 2010).
  • Please note that only one blog post per blog url will count towards the donation.

I am donating a Virtual Bag of school supplies to some of my favorite Homeschool moms–because I know they care about all our children’s educations!

I want to donate a virtual bag of school supplies to:

Well, The OldSchoolhouse Crew (TOS) journey for 2010-2011 has begun!

You will be seeing crew homeschool reviews pop up this week and hopefully, be able to learn about some practical, useful and fun curriculum.

The crew journey last year was a blast. I got to try out tons of new learning products and meet lots of great people. To check out some reviews from last year or to see why we homeschool, you can click on my Homeschool Helps Tab. I can’t wait to see what I’ll be reviewing this year…

This time around, I am also a First Mate with a mini-crew! I’d love to welcome these ladies to the crew and introduce them to my readers. Please check out their blogs for homeschool advice and inspiration.

Here’s our mini-crew logo. We are using an old sailing term “Know the Ropes,” because all of the ladies on this mini-crew are veteran homeschoolers who will be wise reviewers….they do Know the Ropes!

April at  Heartfelt Homeschooling
Denise at  Light, Liberty and Learning
Kimberly at  Until The Day Dawn Weblog
Sarah at  Ahoy Maties, My Homeschool Crew Reviews and 212 Mom

Watch for our logo and some great ideas for you and your family!

As I sit at my computer, I realized that I love reading other people’s blogs more than writing my own. Truly, I started blogging this year and I already “follow” tons of wonderful blogs. The stories are amazing, the tips are fantastic and I can sign in and enjoy whenever I feel like it–and I do not even have to remember to return any books! While this is a good thing, I totally have to discipline myself to Blog first & read later…otherwise, I’m still reading and my photos and ideas are a distant memory:)

Today, I am going to join with Angie at Minivan Moments and participate in “Try it Tuesday” My try? It will be to blog before reading others blogs at least 3x a week. Thanks to all of the bloggers out there who make this fun!

PS: Look for my “Works for Me Wednesday” post tomorrow-I want to add some of my ideas for helping the kids have some fun in summer, while keeping your sanity:)

TOS Homeschool Crew

Heather —  May 28, 2009

Yesterday we had a great time at the museum–Emma truly loves the dinosaurs and it is always fun to be with the “Big Boys”
Hey! I just found out I am going to be on The Old Schoolhouse Homeschool Crew for next year! I am excited. I will need to brush up on my “getting things done” skills! Actually, I need to go pray about it, because I asked God specifically to only let me be chosen if it was something I should be doing! I feel good about that. Now, I get to meet new people & try out some things for my babies. Very Cool. Better go backup my hard drive, etc:) Well, hopefully I’ll be a help to someone, including myself!! Well, I better get on with the day. PS: Harris Teeter is doing triple coupons!
