Fit Mommy Friday!

Heather —  November 12, 2010

Curious? You can see my Fit Mommy Challenge Post. Today, I need to list how I am doing on my goals in the challenge.

  1. My goal: To continue to eat only organic foods- Did This, no eating out this week
  2. To lose 10 Lbs for Christmas- Well, have not lost any yet.
  3. To drink wine at most 1-2 nights per week, a maximum of 2 glasses- Blew this, I know, it doesn’t matter its organic. My husband pointed that out….
  4. To not eat at all after 7:30 pm- Did eat several times after 7:30. I kept forgetting. Noticed I look for carbs- crackers, things like that after kids are settled and I’m tidying kitchen
  5. To not eat/taste batter/appetizers etc while Holiday cooking- Did not eat while cooking, except when I put out appetizers for company. I probably ate way too many calories there, talking and moving around
  6. To incorporate more veggies into my diet- Ate carrots for snack 2x, purposefully did not buy anything like pretzels. Added more veges to lunches
  7. To exercise at least 4x per week- Exercised officially 2x.

ok. So there you have it. Not a great re-start. But, I kept putting it off, then the week was almost gone. I was more aware and mentally noticing my weaknesses, rather than trying not to!

Now that I’ve faced my weaknesses…yuck….I have high hopes for this upcoming week.

Head over to Got Chai to how the other participants are doing!

Fit Mommy Friday

Heather —  November 5, 2010

Well, I jumped back into Fit Mommy Friday on Nov. 3rd, officially. You can see my Fit Mommy Challenge Post. Today, I need to list my goals for the challenge.

  1. To continue to eat only organic foods. I began this in April. From time to time, I have cheated–only very slightly though–this mainly happens when I eat out. Occasionally, I will also take a review item that I will try for the family, because it IS pretty healthy and I like to offer healthy giveaways. Overall, this goal is pretty much accomplished, but I want it to be a total way of life.
  2. To lose 10 Lbs for Christmas
  3. To drink wine at most 1-2 nights per week, a maximum of 2 glasses
  4. To not eat at all after 7:30 pm
  5. To not eat/taste batter/appetizers etc while Holiday cooking
  6. To incorporate more veggies into my diet
  7. To exercise at least 4x per week

ok. So there you have it. Wish me luck? Also, you are welcome to join in! Head over to Got Chai to join up!

Fit Mommy Friday

Heather —  November 3, 2010

Ok. So let’s try this AGAIN.

A sweet blogging friend of mine began a challenge a while back called Fit Mommy. The concept is great–eat healthy, exercise, challenge yourself to whatever level you want. Check in with a group of likeminded and supportive women with a check-in blog post each Friday and read up about how everyone else is doing.

I started out with a bang. Then, the weather continued to be freezing…and I got sick. I whined and groaned and over the next few weeks, basically dropped out of Fit Mommy. (I think they were probably glad)

Anyway, I saw recently that Fit Mommy is having a showdown to help people get motivated again during the Holiday Season:

“Beginning Monday, October 25 and running through December 31st (65 days), Fit Mommy is hosting its first Fitness Challenge!”

Now, I just blogged about this, and I know it’s a bit late. But everyone is welcome to join in…and there is even a prize package for a lucky Fit Mommy!!

I told Denise (the original Fit Mommy) that I really should do this. I also admitted that I could probably drop some weight instantaneously if I quit one thing….yes, that would be having a glass of wine in the evenings. Or was that two? (yes, mom, I’m mostly joking)

Anyway, Smart Fit Mommy Denise sent me a fantastic video clip that says it all. Take a look:

Motivated? There are a bunch of people playing along–Go to Got Chai to join in!

My goals? I will post them this coming Friday! Right now, I am off to download Fit Mommy 10 Week Daily Checklist available through Mrs. White’s blog @ The Legacy of Home (She’s the co-host for the challenge:)

Fit Mommy Friday–My goals and how I fared:

  • To exercise 15 minutes each day except Sat/Sun (not done)
  • To get outside for a fitness based activity at least 1x this week–this could be walking, or something more exciting (1x, nice long walk)
  • To count my calories eaten each day, except Sat/Sun. (not done)
  • Remember to take the vitamins/Fish oil stuff (not done)
  • Cook more healthily (I think so-I’m looking into using coconut oil for cooking)
  • Drink heavily (wait, that wasn’t a goal–shoot, I did that one)

I am also involved in a Bible study–which just started–and I have not done anything with that.

So, a REALLY bad week. In my defense, I have to say, I am in the second month of dealing with my daughter’s brand new diagnosis of epilepsy. We have spent a lot of time in the hospital, both the ER and testing. Also spent quite a bit of time snowed in–but restless and unable to focus, not relaxing and exercising:)

So, personally, I think the universe ok, the devil is very much against my getting disciplined.

Good luck to all the other fit mommy Friday participants–I know some of them are doing wonderfully!

Goal setting time for Fit Mommy Friday. (ok. actually that was yesterday, but we have had so many snow days every bit of schedule we ever had is destroyed)

I will, however, do this thing!

Not only is it important to me to reclaim my fit, healthy body, but this week, I also have a fun giveaway to share!

Perfect timing!

Perfect timing!

With all my emphasis on losing weight and getting more fit this year, I was really excited earlier this month to hear about Progresso Light and 100 Calorie Soups. I received a Progresso “Souper You Debut” gift pack that included 15 cans of several different varieties of the Progresso Light and 100 Calorie Soups, as well as a Progresso digital jump rope that keeps track of jumps and calories burned and a Progresso soup mug.

Truly, the timing was perfect. I am in the midst of a cold, snowy January…when I am really craving comfort food. However, my package came with some really wonderful sounding soups and an oversize mug for my hot soup that I just love.

I have tried several of the soups so far and I think this is a marvelous way to watch my calories! I am shocked that they have at least 15 types that are low-cal.

The soups have filling ingredients like pasta, beans, corn and rice, and vegetables like tomatoes, carrots, and peppers—and fiber. Having a serving of soup for lunch or dinner turned out to be delicious, satisfied my appetite and made me proud that I was sticking with eating less. I know they really taste good because my kids are trying to eat them!

I think this is a great way to have a healthy meal without having too many calories…and I do not have to count calories or make a big deal. That is perfect to me. I think incorporating the Progresso light soups into my Fit Mommy Friday eating will help me out!

You will love the soup mug!

You will love the soup mug!

I  get to giveaway an additional gift pack that contains the mug, jump rope and two cans of Progresso Soup!

This week, I did a rotten job. I was struggling just to keep up with my other responsibilities and then it got cold. This is how I got behind in the first place! Well, I begin again tomorrow.

The overall goals I kept this week:

  • Paying more attention to books and blogs discussing healthy eating and exercise.
  • Making healthier eating choices and buying even less junk at the store from the beginning
  • Eaten less food overall no getting seconds at Dinner

My specific goals for the week of Jan 22-29, and how I fared:)

  • To exercise 15 minutes each day except Sat/Sun (I did nothing)
  • To get outside for a fitness based activity at least 1x this week–this could be walking, or something more exciting (no, too cold for me)
  • To REALLY count my calories eaten each day, except Sat/Sun.(Not just kind of estimate) Failed with this
  • Cut out 1 more cup of coffee and replace it with water in the am Did this
  • Remember to take the vitamins/Fish oil stuff  Forgot

Soooo…not much to report. I will post new goals early next week. So, I am off to get a cup of tea and plan a healthy dinner.

I wonder if I need to push through some threshold or if I just need to rest and regroup….

Good luck to all the other fit mommy Friday participants!

Check In time for Fit Mommy Friday.

This week, I am fighting a cold. However, I have continued to make a bit of difference each day in living a more healthy lifestyle. In the past, I have made the mistake of setting large goals, failing and quitting. This year…it is baby steps for me!

My overall goals I have made (& kept) so far this year:

  • Paying more attention to books and blogs discussing healthy eating and exercise.
  • Getting back on the elliptical trainer just a bit. I know I am lucky to have it. My husband is awesome
  • Making healthier eating choices and buying even less junk at the store from the beginning
  • Eaten less food overall no getting seconds at Dinner
  • buying an iron supplement and a fish oil supplement

My specific goals for the week of Jan 16-22, and how I fared:)

  • To exercise 15 minutes each day except Sat/Sun (3x)
  • To get outside for a fitness based activity at least 1x this week–this could be walking, or something more exciting Did this, nature walk w/kids.
  • To REALLY count my calories eaten each day, except Sat/Sun.(Not just kind of estimate) Failed with this
  • Cut out 1 more cup of coffee and replace it with water in the am Did this
  • Remember to take the vitamins/Fish oil stuff  Took iron, not others each day

In the spirit of not biting off more than I can chew, I recommend one post–worth taking 10 minutes to read:

The Ultimate How To get Lean Guide, From Zen Habits–For those who are regular with exercise and are in good shape already. Even the opening graphic of gorgeous abs is not for the faint hearted! Fun to dream about being there.

*In true Zen form, Leo also includes some links for those who are at a more basic level–if that is where you are at (like me), make sure to take a look–right under the picture of where you’d LIKE to be…)

I have heard from several mommies that they want to start doing this meme–do it! We’d love to have you:)  Go to Got Chai?, and sign up…let me know your name & I’ll stick with you as we do this. I know it can be very difficult to focus on fitness with babies afoot. But, it can also be fun. Really.

I will also start posting my weekly goals each Monday in a quick post and I will be having some healthy giveaways on Mondays/Fridays here and there. (Watch for one Monday 1/25:)

You know, I know there are many levels we are all at. Personally, I do envy that  fit, blonde Mom who you see roller-blading with a jogging stroller and huge dog.

And, that’s my sister. And she really, actually enjoys doing that. And, to make things worse, she is a very nice person. But, that’s not where I am at…and while I am envious, I have to get rid of that picture of what is perfection to me, and find out what is perfection for me.

What does God want for me? I imagine it is like what I want for my kids. That they are healthy and strong. Moderate with food and drink. So, in taking care of my body, I am honoring myself and God.

I do believe the most important part of me is my spirit. But God also gave me a healthy body. I know I am not meant to waste that. And I just love this verse:

“He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?” Micah 6:8

The above verse does not address fitness–but to “walk humbly” strikes me. To me, that would include not wasting resources and not taking more than I need of a resource.  I feel it is the verse I want to associate with the Fit Mommy Meme. Micah 6:8 just calms me and gives me strength.

Oh, also…if you are well on your way in the fit lifestyle, join Fit Mommy & do level three!

Fitness Check-In

Heather —  January 15, 2010

Well, Hooray! It is time for my first check-in for Fit Mommy Friday. I have actually done a decent job this week, although at the beginning of the week I was not feeling well, which always derails me.

This week, I have:

  • Eaten less food overall (no getting seconds at Dinner)
  • Eaten healthier food (turkey slices without bread, toast w/cottage cheese, less carbs)
  • continued reading and researching about healthy lifestyles (I am still reading The One Day Way–my giveaway is still open if you want to try to win a copy of this–and am doing some research about using the Atkins plan)
  • walked on the elliptical trainer 2x (this is bad I know…but I got on the thing. I’m amazed how many chores I’d rather do. Weird)
  • went for a long walk outdoors (this was fun, as the weather suddenly got nice)
