Gratitude Challenge

Today is Day 8

One of my quiet and faithful TOS crew leaders, Brenda, over at Garden of Learning, is doing a Gratitude Challenge for the month of November. I am pleased to join in and should be posting something I am grateful for each day.

Today, I am grateful for my nomination in the Homeschool Post Blog Awards.

I really am. Last year, I got all excited about these awards. As a new blogger, I had visions over writing inspirational posts to save the world all the while teaching my children to perfection and making beef bourginnione. (which I actually have an awesome recipe for from Ina Garten, if you are interested)

Anyway, several months into blogging, I realized that I:

  1. am not Anne over at Holy Experience or Ree over at Pioneer Woman
  2. inspirational posts do not inexplicably come out of my fingertips. Bummer.
  3. homeschooling is hard, and
  4. some nights I totally don’t even do dinner (thank you God, for Nick, who loves to cook!)

So, while I am now a bit more realistic, it is sometimes hard to pull coherent thoughts together and have fun while doing things I have:

  • promised to do
  • thought might make a good blog post if I could get it done in that 5 minutes while the kids were busy working
  • to do for a company because I got a review item

Anyway, I do try to share things I think will help families. Whether that is a family story, homeschool item or a healthy product or just a freebie or great coupon. Shoot–I’m the oldest in my family–I love to tell people things!

So, I love it that I was nominated for Best Homeschool Mom. It does mean alot to me and I thank those who did nominate me. I don’t even have a problem asking people to vote for me…because, well, why not? If you want to, go ahead. If not, no biggie. I’ll do my bit of quiet, hopefully useful blogging tomorrow or the next day either way.

And I will pray that I am considerate and thoughtful with my blogging–because it is supposed to be useful and fun!

Anyway, I am grateful for this!

Today is Day 7

One of my quiet and faithful TOS crew leaders, Brenda, over at Garden of Learning, is doing a Gratitude Challenge for the month of November. I am pleased to join in and should be posting something I am grateful for each day.

Today, I have to say that I am grateful for the Gratitude Challenge. I am enjoying reading everyone’s posts about what they are thankful for so much!

I actually had tons of ideas for what I would be grateful for today. I went on a fantastic homeschool field trip on Friday and then came home to a husband who surprised me with tickets to an Opera for Saturday evening…I had never seen The Marriage of Figaro and I thought it was wonderful. What a treat!

Now, for me, that’s a good week~and I was all ready to post about those things when I began going through my reader. One by one, I saw some of the Gratitude Challenge posts from others and my heart was warmed by all the blessings. I realize how much I like this meme! Not too hard…and very uplifting:)

Anyway, I am grateful for this!

Today is Day 4

One of my quiet and faithful TOS crew leaders, Brenda, over at Garden of Learning, is doing a Gratitude Challenge for the month of November. I am pleased to join in and should be posting something I am grateful for each day.

For today, I am grateful that we are going on a homeschool field trip to Mt. Vernon tomorrow!

I meant to write something really profound today. So much for that. But, I really enjoy our homeschooling lifestyle and fieldtrips are really the icing on that cake. Last Spring, we went to Monticello on a homeschool field trip and had such a great time!

We have been studying the American Revolution and Emma is pretty impressed with General Washington in the Liberty Kids on Netflix…this should be fun. (Now wish me luck for the drive. I hate driving near D.C.!)

Today is day 3

One of my quiet and faithful TOS crew leaders, Brenda, over at Garden of Learning, is doing a Gratitude Challenge for the month of November. I am pleased to join in and should be posting something I am grateful for each day.

For today, I am grateful to have too much to do.

Really. I am busy. Busy teaching kids, cleaning house, organizing grocery coupons and lists, cooking, washing sheets, cleaning that bathroom (maybe I should get to that), deciding what bloggy things I am doing…

And I am grateful for these things. Things I really do want to do. Things I chose to do. Sometimes they are humdrum and annoying, and most of them are never truly “done”.

But mostly, I enjoy taking care of my family, my home.

I tend to minimize it myself, but for now, my family is my mission. And that’s just fine with me.

Today is day 2

One of my quiet and faithful  TOS crew leaders, Brenda, is doing a Gratitude Challenge for the month of November. I am pleased to join in and should be posting something I am grateful for each day.

To be honest, I find memes difficult to keep up with. I tend to get excited and join up and then get busy with other pressures…I get easily sidetracked, often by good things, but sidetracked nonetheless.

I realized I especially wanted to should do the gratitude challenge when I wasn’t sure how to spell gratitude and wasn’t sure what to be grateful for. Ouch.

I AM grateful for many things but often can think of things to be critical of much more quickly than things to be thankful for. You know, where one thing leads to another…like I’m thankful that everyone has lovely winter coats…but ah, I need to get some hats and gloves…

I want to be quietly grateful and not worry about what comes next so much. So, that’s my goal for November.

For today, I am grateful for the love of my family.

Multitude Monday

Heather —  November 23, 2009

This Monday, I am especially thankful for a bible study based on the book, Stepping Heavenward, that I am doing. The format is very simple but structured and it is helping me tremendously.

For my Husband

I am thankful for my babies

Thankful my daughter is a quick learner. Teaching her is so easy!

For the Thanksgiving Holiday coming up

Thankful to be on the TOS crew. I am learning so much about Homeschooling…as well as homemaking…and a bit about health.

For a full fridge, with a turkey thawing:)

For a child who loves to cook who helps so much.

For my husband getting the sheets out of the dryer and making the bed when I was just exhausted. I love fresh, warm sheets!

For God’s provision–even down to having fun lessons on Pilgrims when I did not set that up, but someone popped them into my in box!

Giving Thanks

Giving Thanks

Lately, I have not been giving thanks. I do not feel thankful, I feel overwhelmed. I have a dirty bathroom. I have five children. Yes, the other bathrooms really could use some work–are gross–, too. I need to meal plan today as my husband is freaking out about grocery money. Did I mention 4 of my children are as large as adults, 2 of them are over 6 feet tall, 2 over 5’8″? And, they are hungry pretty often:)

I have at least 5 posts I can think of I should do–several I promised to do. My entire family is having fun all together in another state…far away. Where they will be for the holidays, as usual. ok. so my feelings have gotten pretty out of hand.

In my heart and mind, I know I have much to be thankful for, so even though I do not feel it, today I will post my thanks. Forgive me for not being all flowery and sweet…I have a bit of a journey to go..so, I will do will do what I do not feel. I’m thinking God will be ok with that because he knows what personality he gave me.

  • My four year old daughter was annoyed this morning that she did not have enough schoolwork to do:)
  • I am with my children each morning.
  • We have a grocery menu planning budget.
  • We will all be together for Thanksgiving and everyone is healthy.
  • My husband does not judge my housework…teaching…really anything. He is supportive.
  • We are having beautiful late Fall days on a mountain…very pretty.
  • I got a mini sun lamp in case the sun hides during the winter.

Well, there you are. I have also lost track of my number of Thanks…which you are supposed to do to get to 1,000. But, that is because I am starting over–)

Here are some picture Thanksgivings:

oh. And, also I joined a friends online bible study, where as part of the process, you are supposed to sing praise songs during the day and study psalms…I think with some strategies like those, I can beat these feelings. How about you? Where are you in your walk? In your day? I am praying Blessings over busy Moms today.
