I have to admit, this week’s challenge was a breeze for my guy. What is it about boys and paper airplanes, anyway?

However, it was kind of disappointing to me. Normally, I love watching the wild things the kids can come up with…

like this weird thing...

But,

After I told Nick the challenge, he began making…well, a plane. There was no sizzling excitement and bizarre manuvers involved whatsoever.

As for me, I am used to crazy things happening when I tell Nick it is okay to go ahead and do “what he is thinking”

There have been times when saying “go ahead” would incur some real effort for me and result in my:

  • being grossed out
  • being upset by the mess
  • being totally and completely speechless

But, I have to say, deep down, I love having a crazy, creative type around. Almost every day, I find myself asking Nick something…and invariably, it will go like this:

  • “No, no, Nick, listen,
  • I think we can/should…
  • OH…I see, well, PLEASE be careful.
  • Can that break it?
  • Wow! How did that work??”

Anyway, with this week’s instant challenge, Nick just, well, built a plane.

And flew it. And it flew well and hit his target.

I said, isn’t there something else you can do to make it more exciting? And he, the little genius, said, “well, Mom, the best way to fly well and hit the target was to build a good plane, Nothing fancy, just a good flying plane, and I already know how to do that.”

So, then we kind of looked at each other and went back to what we needed to do that day.

I was excited, though, that he took the time to teach his sister how to make a plane, too.
