The study will be based on this book

The study will be based on this book

One of my TOS Crewmates recently invited me to do a study on this book. I had never heard of the book before. After googling it, I am very interested. This sounds like a wonderful Mother/daughter thing or just for yourself…

Originally, I thought, “Oh, I cannot do this with Christmas, etc coming up. Then, I realized this would be a great thing to do as we get ready for Christmas…So, if you are interested, join us!

Consider yourself invited!

“In case anyone is interested, I am hosting a study using one of the books by Elizabeth Prentiss (from the 1800’s). This is intended to be a life transforming program not a book discussion. The book is “Stepping Heavenward.”

The study guide is 37 pages long. It is a 90 day program and each day is carefully recorded so we will know exactly what to do each day.”

If you or someone you know is interested, here is the link to join:

Wonderful!

Wonderful!

The Jesus Book, by Stephen Elkins, is a marvelous resource for anyone who wants to share about Jesus’ life and love with children! When I opened this book up, I thought, “Wow! This is amazing…a question and answer book about Jesus…with maps and a CD!” The Jesus book, with its clear writing and colorful, lively illustrations by Claudine Gevry, really pleasantly surprised me with an incredible wealth of information. more…

A Wonderful Choice for a Little one:)

A Wonderful Choice for a Little One:)

We are in love with this Read and Share TM brand Toddler Bible and bonus DVD! The Bible is wonderfully crafted by Gwen Ellis to inspire a love of God’s Word in children ages one to four, and includes 40 Bible stories and a 60 minute DVD. Our four year old delighted in Steve Smallman’s vibrant artwork, and loves to watch the colorful DVD and find the accompanying story in “her” Bible.

While the prose is concise, Ellis manages to keep the meaning of each biblical story. This is really perfect for a small child. The stories are from both the Old and New Testament, and include the Creation, Noah, Moses, David, to Jesus’ birth, miracles and resurrection. The book is great as a teaching tool, for the bible verse is included with each story, and at the conclusion of each story there is a parent/child activity offered to help solidify the story/lesson.

I think this Bible is a perfect gift for a child. The artwork is fantastic and the stories grab a child’s attention. This is a great way to lead your child into a lifetime of honoring the Bible. The bible itself is a small size, making it easy for little hands to hold and carry. The book is well bound, and the price is very reasonable and even includes the dvd!

As I look for new ideas for curriculum and fun learning experiences for my children, I keep finding fun stuff for…ME!! Really, the Lord is good…and funny.

Recently, as I was looking at The Old Schoolhouse products, I came across their new E-Book, HomeWork and their new line of WeE-books TM. I really enjoyed the reads!

Are any of you thinking of working from home? If so, The E-book, HomeWork, Juggling Home Work & School Without losing your Balance is a must have. Packed full of advice and inspiration for anyone interested in running a home business, the ebook is 95 pgs. The stories are funny and heart-warming throughout…and written by homeschooling moms in businesses from recycling jeans to computer network management! I loved the format of the book–it had personal stories as well as a bunch of resource sections, full of website links and further information.

This book really highlit the fact that there are sooo many ways to live, homeschool and work, and all can be offered up to the Lord. I loved one of the quotes from Jill Novak of Remembrance Press, “your products should be an outflow of the work that the Lord is doing in your life.” Truly, reading this E-book is like having coffee with a friend who is telling you all her business secrets! Great, easy read. Worth your time!

After that big read, I was tickled to find the WeE-book TM line. Each of these are real reasonable at $1.95 and vary in length. From the thirty available, I first chose A Light Unto My Path, by Donna Rees. This 23 pg ebook is a sweet, simple, studyguide with copywork included. This is wonderful to have at my fingertips for a sunny day for myself and the children!

A New Beginning, by Pat Marcum, was a 16 pg. serious look at the dangers of public education and a support for parents who are choosing to go forward with homeschooling. This would be perfect to share with your friends who are tentative about beginning to homeschool.

I thoroughly enjoyed my next choice–Homeschooling The Rebel, Part 1, by Deborah Wuehler. I myself have a “rebel” and found this to be chock full of specific helps, further resources and God’s word. The writer is down to earth, clear, and concise. I loved this one! I am definitely getting Part 2!!!!!

Wow. Between homeschool planning and spring cleaning & reading up on preparing for the Swine Flu, (H1N1 Flu). It is suddenly Thursday. The weeks just fly by:) Anyway, I have been busy getting my son’s school work in order, reviewing to take the Iowa test, for legal documentation for homeschooling in North Carolina. All good stuff (except the H1N1 Flu), but definitely busy!

Seriously, if you are wondering, this CDC website gives clear updates on the Flu and ways to get prepared in case your family gets sick. While I know we are all in God’s hands, I do want to get stocked up on tylenol and fluids, clean sheets & towels, etc. Anything I can do ahead of time helps, because I am Horrible at getting up in the middle of the night:) No joke, it is HARD to wake me! I need to be prepared for stuff….

Well, anyway, as this is our first year Homeschooling, I am learning mainly through trial and error, skimming all kinds of websites and asking my local support group folks. Still, I always feel behind. From some of the blogs I’ve been following, it seems this is pretty typical for the first year experience…and then we’ll all be soaring….I hope!

So far I especially like the following homeschooling sites:
http://www.hslda.org,
http://www.thehomeschoolmagazine.com,
http://www.econobusters.com/, and
http://www.aophomeschooling.com, especially their “the daily focus” reading.
Oh–this site is gorgeous: http://www.aholyexperience.com/. These are just some of the wonderful, helpful sites I have found this year. Do you have any favorites? Any advice? Let me know!
